Disney Releases Dates For Next Star Wars Trilogy, Delays Avatar Yet Again

Pundits have said that Disney would not release Star Wars and Avatar in the same Christmas period. One has got to move. And now we know the verdict.

Avatar has been pushed back yet again, and whether it's because of Star Wars or just to give James Cameron more time to tinker; I don't believe we will ever know for certain.

The first sequel will be released on 17 December 2021, while Avatar 3 has been pushed back two years to 22 December 2023.

Cameron has said before that if the first two movies are not as expected in ticket sales, the last two movies may not move forward. But if they do, Disney has earmarked the dates of 19 December 2025 and 17 December 2027.

And you will notice that none of those years coincide with the new dates Star Wars are getting. Believed to be released first is the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss trilogy (instead of Rian Johnson's, though nothing is concrete at this point), the first movie will arrive on 16 December 2022, followed by 20 December 2024 and 18 December 2026.

One thing is certain, Disney will continue to dominate the box office during Christmas season for the foreseeable future.
