[Review] Midway (3/10)

Title - Midway
Studio - Lionsgate
Starring - Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Woody Harrelson, Mandy Moore, Aaron Eckhart, Dennis Quaid, Darren Criss, Nick Jonas, Tadanobu Asano
Writer - Wes Tooke
Director - Roland Emmerich
Release - 8 November 2019

Maybe, maybe this movie would have worked back in the 90's, Wes Tooke's script did not work at all in this day and age.

And as big budget as this movie was, the CGI looked terrible. You can tell everything was shot in front of a green screen, and it was not immersive at all. Coupled with Roland Emmerich's direction in the back and forth between the battleground and some weird ball party and scenes at home, the audience just could not get behind the story as everything felt very cut and stitched together.

There have been great war movies that had a huge ensemble, and then there is Midway. While the audience could not get behind the story, the same went for every main character here. I did not care who lived or died, and that is a problem when it happens.

Instead, a terrible thing to happen, I was more interested in the Japanese. I thought the Japanese scenes had more heart and determination, more interesting characters, and their sacrifices were more heartfelt. This is crazy.
