[Review] Mank (7/10)

Title - Mank
Studio - Netflix
Starring - Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Tuppence Middleton, Tom Pelphrey
Writer - Jack Fincher
Director - David Fincher
Release - 4 December 2020

David Fincher's first movie after Gone Girl, and it feels like a departure from his previous work. He directed the movie a la the style of its topic in the story, Citizen Kane; some back and forth in the timeline, the 40's style of camera work, and some brilliant dialogue we well.

Gary Oldman has never been this good in a long time. He reminded me of his performance in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; how he disappeared into Mank and looked completely believable and natural.

A great supporting cast as well under the direction of Fincher, and Lily Collins never looked this good in a movie, too.

Sadly in trying to cover a lot of the plot points, the second act grew slightly tired and heavy; and also going into the third act the pacing of the movie never crescendo into new heights.

But it was a great learning of what happened to one of the greatest ghost writers in Hollywood, and also how unappreciated they were.
