[Review] Sound Of Metal (7/10)

Title - Sound Of Metal
Studio - Amazon Prime Media
Starring - Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci, Mathieu Amalric, Lauren Ridloff
Writer - Darius Marder, Abraham Marder
Director - Darius Marder
Release - 4 December 2020

This was a Riz Ahmed movie from beginning to end. Every frame hinged on his performance and this was definitely his heaviest and most heartfelt.

The subject matter also hit a little close to home as I have started suffering from tinnitus this year; even though mine is mild compared to his, I still feel his amplified pain.

I thought the movie had a lot of heart. There was plenty of character progression and a lot of beautiful acting that even without words made the audience feel what the character felt. I won't be surprised if Ahmed gets his first Oscar nomination here, though the movie may be far away from a Best Picture nod.

The ending was more of a subtle vibe that Darius Marder was going for. But it may be too subtle and too much of an open-ended version that as an audience member you would walk away from it not feeling enough from the story. I can't tell if it's because I was watching at home on a TV, rather than getting swallowed up in the big cinema screen; maybe then the ending would have affected me more.
