After waiting for more than a year for this movie (original release date was 1 May 2020), I'm just ecstatic there's a new Marvel property out in cinemas now.

I wasn't onboard when the movie was announced so many years ago, but as the pandemic happened, and with its action-packed trailers, I was feeling the hype.

Was it a good movie. It's quite decent. Was I disappointed? Unfortunately, yes. Upon Scarlett Johansson's Natasha reuniting with Florence Pugh's Yelena, I immediately guessed who the Taskmaster was.

The action sequences in the beginning and in the middle, particularly the hand-to-hand combats and the chase sequences, looked and felt like a proper big-budget, Marvel-styled delivery. But the ending was such a dud. Never has there ever been a big ending fight as lame as this one because there were almost none.

What really worked for the movie was that family dynamic. What we saw in the trailers were sort of a misdirect as to what the dynamic actually was. And to have that played out from middle to end really helped build on who Natasha was.

And if you were to watch the older Avengers movies and what Natasha has said in those movies when referring to her past, all the blanks are filled now.

Surprisingly, the best character and the most interesting and the funniest, was David Harbour. He gave such a great performance here as the Red Guardian and I would not mind a whole movie about him.

O-T Fagbenle was a new character that seemingly came out of nowhere. Not saying if that's a bad thing, just that if this character is so prominently here it's a surprise he was never mentioned before in other movies.

Taskmaster, however, was quite the disappointment. As mentioned, he didn't get a cool climactic fight scene; and his mimic powers were never fully explored or exhibited. Every time the audience were able to recognize one of the other Avengers' weapons being used, it just kind of tapered off without anything cool.

That end-credit scene is something to wait for. We'll never know if this was recently added in or was the original plan for the previous 2020 release date. But it could be an interesting debate for fans to speculate.
