One of the many great pleasures watching this film was that it all depended on the acting of its cast. And with this caliber of actors, there never was a moment that you didn't believe you were right there in the story with them.

It's been a while since I saw Kevin Costner leading a movie, and though this wasn't his best, but he was still so good in it. Diane Lane is not as old as what her character was, and they really had to age her up with those streaks of white in her hair. But it's just the way she looked here and how she portrayed the character that made her so convincing.

Lesley Manville was terrifying. That energy she brought was what really made the threat felt so real. And in a family of young men that's already physically imposing, her character was the the scariest of them all.

Even though Manville's character and the characteristics of her family weren't anything new or original, but it's the way Thomas Bezucha told the story that gave that sense of realism, the kind that asks you what you would do in these kinds of situations. These are the type of stories that are gripping and compelling; and when done right like this one, doesn't leave you psyche anytime soon.
