[Review] Good On Paper (6/10)

Title - Good On Paper
Studio - Netflix
Starring - Iliza Shlersinger, Ryan Hansen, Margaret Cho, Rebecca Rittenhouse
Writer - Iliza Shlersinger
Director - Kimmy Gatewood
Release - 23 June 2021

Based on Iliza Shlersinger's past experience with an ex, there is a nice little story here that seemed well thought-out but just lacked the right execution.

Part of that execution was obviously clear that Slersinger isn't at the level where she can lead a movie yet. And Margaret Cho also wasn't the best choice to be having so much screentime. So having these two together most of the time, even though they had fun banter all around, was a little tough to watch and take the movie seriously.

The only one who was comfortable to watch was Ryan Hansen (and Rebecca Rittenhouse if she had had more screentime). Hansen flirted with the line of being an awkward, sociopathic liar and a serial killer. And that actually made his character more interesting, and also the main reason I kept watching because I wanted to find out who he was exactly.

The ending had Shlersinger giving this big speech in a very fake courtroom scene that's a war cry for women against men that belittles, gave a mixed feeling of having its moments of triumph but also as too well-thought-out and not spontaneous.

Shlesinger has a voice in Hollywood, hence her successful career as a standup. Hope she has more unique and original stories to tell next in long form.
