There was a concept here about how you can only travel back in time to one specific point and no longer further than that in the next. It's very unfortunate that the story never explored more of this which was the only original thing in the movie.
The writing of each plot point didn't really give much substance. It's weird how when the whole world was at war and we really only got to see Chris Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski most of the time, as if no one else was involved, even people on their team. Things happened because they had to move the story forward, and just logical enough so that the action sequences could distract you.
Edwin Hodge played a character that was returning to the future for the third time, while Pratt was doing his first. Yet, Pratt felt more comfortable taking the lead? That's quite the sleight on Hodges' character.
But the action was actually very decent. And the story actually felt epic enough because it didn't end when I thought it was ending. Clearly this was where all the budget went.
Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski both were very competent being an action hero. I would love to see Strahovski in a superhero role.
And I have to ask, why the heck was J.K. Simmons this ripped? Has he been training with The Rock? Because I don't see anything else he has coming up that requires that kind of a body. Certainly not in Spider-Man: No Way Home...?
