[Review] Wish Dragon (7/10)

Title - Wish Dragon
Studio - Netflix
Starring - Jimmy Wong, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Constance Wu, John Cho, Bobby Lee, Jimmy O. Yang, Ronnie Cheng
Writer - Chris Applehans, Liu Xiao Cao
Director - Chris Applehans
Release - 11 June 2021

The trailer has been looking really bad, like a Chinese rip off of Aladdin. After watching the movie, I wasn't wrong. Or at least for the first and second acts, which could almost be a beat-for-beat copy of Aladdin's plot, short of the musical angle.

That final act was where the movie really shone. More than Aladdin, there was so much heart because the story really came together.

But also throughout the movie, the director nailed the dynamic between the son and mother, and between them and their nosy neighbours. Those were some of the best moments of the movie.

Kudos also to Constance Wu for properly pronouncing "Wang", instead of the American way.

This poster, though, is a terrible poster because it's very misleading.
