With a new team of director and writers, and they somehow made this sequel just as good, if not better, than the first.
I haven't laughed this much in a movie for a long time, and my only regret was not seeing it in the cinema.
The concept of setting the Croods in a more modern setting (a setting we the audience were immediately intimate with), and meeting Peter Dinklage and Leslie Mann's characters as the "better" version, worked better than the trailers let on. The jokes came fast and hard, with every new situation the Croods faced came with humorous opportunities.
Dinklage and Mann's addition were just great, especially with Dinklage's American accent that made his voice unrecognizable. And the way he and Mann played their characters were so fitting as the opposites of the Croods. I only wished Catherine Keener had more lines to balance off.
I don't think DreamWorks knew what a hit they had on their hands when they gave first-time director Joel Crawford the reins. I'm now anticipating his next project which is supposed to be the Puss In Boots sequel. Also, look at how well this movie has been doing throughout the pandemic. It was the number one movie in the US ever when the pandemic was at its height, and it surpassed all other movies that was released during that time in terms of ticket sales.
This was one of the best movies that came out last year. Also, Nicolas Cage should do more voice acting.
