There's something just not right about this movie. It has a decent script. The direction for each frame was competent. The fight scenes were the best thing about the movie. But somehow it was just not good.
This reminded me of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. The movie looked beautiful but it was a terrible movie.
Karen Gillan did not shine as this character - so strange, I know. Instead of feeling right at home, there was a certain awkwardness. And same goes to Michelle Yeoh, who looked like she was a miscast. I would have to fault director Navot Papushado for this as he couldn't make the actors become the characters onscreen.
And while I said the fight scenes were the best thing here, it's probably because it was the only thing holding the movie together. It wasn't close to greatness or anything like that if you were to compare to movies with really good fight scenes. Though one cool shot it had was at the diner in slow motion. Everything else was just waiting for something cool to happen and never did.
And every subplot in here was a slog. Even the way Gillan's character found her outfit. What an uninspired way to receive your signature look.
