[Review] Finch (8.5/10)

Title - Finch
Production - Apple+
Starring - Tom Hanks, Caleb Landry Jones, Amblin Partners, Dutch Angle, ImageMovers
Writer - Craig Luck, Ivor Powell
Director - Miguel Sapochnik
Release - 5 November 2021

I was first disappointed to see Tom Hanks in another TV movie; and also thought that this movie wouldn't be any good, especially after viewing the trailer (which kind of reminded me of the horrible Chappie).

Then I watched it, and right from the beginning there was a quality about it that just commanded the attention. We've seen Tom Hanks alone onscreen before in Cast Away, and we know he carries a movie with ease; so that also got me wondering if another actor would work in this movie.

But Hanks has a way of expressing humanity through his acting and that was really what brought this movie from good to great. Depending on eligibility, I think Hanks has earned another Oscar nomination here.

Also Robert Zemekcis has an executive producer credit here, which I thought the movie felt like something he would direct. But Miguel Sapochnik, who has mostly done TV work, showed that he is capable of directing a movie of this scope and level.

It's also amazing how Hanks acting opposite a couple of robots and a dog could get audience so attached and become emotional to these characters. And that was also a credit to Sapochnik in this direction.
