How does Jeymes Samuel get a cast of this caliber when this was only his second directorial feature? He must have great connections, because this movie turned out to be quite the disaster.
And it's quite unfortunate because the movie opened great. The whole opening sequence, I thought, set the stage and the tone of what we will be getting. But as the movie progressed, the weakness in the writing really showed. And no amount of editing was able to mask how badly the movie was written.
The characters seemed smart, and would have clever plans that they made before charging into enemy territory. But no, their plans were the most simplest, and yet their effort in execution was at a maximum. This, would be what Deadpool would describe as, maximum effort.
Also, the direction style of Samuel, took a lot of copying from what we've seen before from other great directors. There's one scene that he just lifted from Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. And there was nothing that felt original in the direction.
In the end, there was just a lot of style and no substance.
