[Review] Bruised (5/10)

Title - Bruised
Production - Romulus Entertainment, Entertainment 360
Starring - Halle Berry, Adan Canto, Sheila Atim, Adriane Lenox, Shamier Anderson, Danny Boyd Jr.
Writer - Michelle Rosenbar
Director - Halle Berry
Release - 24 November 2021

I don't know if this movie would have been made if it wasn't Halle Berry directing because there was really nothing new to be offered from the plot. Right from the start, everything looked very by-the-numbers, and we've seen this many times already.

I would have preferred the movie kept things simpler without any sense of romance in it, because that plot seemed very forced - and, again, to be by-the-number kind of feel. It wasn't necessary and it went nowhere. It even made a character unjustified and undeservedly written out at the end.

No doubt Halle Berry gave her all in this acting wise. She still is one who can deliver in performance, and she's showing that she can put in the work here in terms of hard training.

However, what was terribly lacking was her skill in directing. The pacing from the start was already very slow and it just stayed there. This movie could even have been 30 minutes shorter without multiple training montages and unnecessary dragging of subplots.
