If it wasn't for the very positive word-of-mouth on the cyber space, I wouldn't have watched this. I saw the trailer and I didn't think it would work. One character in CGI and one drawn in the classic cartoon style, it felt like a source for sore eyes.
This movie had a clear plot that was very linear, but throughout the movie and right from the beginning, the creators have cramped a lot of references and cameos from all over the cartoon world all the way from the 80's and maybe even earlier.
And they made fun of a lot of events that happened in the history of cartoons, with the most recent thing being the rejected Sonic The Hedgehog design with its human-teeth.
And not just the cameos and references were entertaining, the characters of Chip and Dale and their broken relationship, though nothing new, worked onscreen very well to keep the attention.
I will admit I used to watch the cartoon, sing the theme song, but never thought I would enjoy this movie. But I did. Andy Samberg and John Mulaney were great voicing this version of Dale and Chip respectively.
