I will give credit to Adam Sandler for not making a by-the-book sports drama, and about a sport that we don't see as often as we used to have them back in the 90's: basketball and the NBA.
There certainly was a nice story here that tried to have more heart with a more serious undertone. But, of course, it came with quite a few moments where our hero, played by Juancho Hernangomez, kicking ass and taking names; that made you cheer for him.
Sandler, too, gave another commendable dramatic acting performance that I wished he would really just focus on from here on out.
However, the excitement or drama in the "4th quarter" of the movie just didn't deliver enough satisfaction as it kind of plateaued. There was more of a quiet finish than one that made you cheer with elation. But like I said above, Sandler did try to make it different; though, this time, "different" didn't equate to "better".
