This was an Aubrey Plaza movie through and through with the camera following her character from start to finish. And it's a movie driven mainly by the performances of a competent cast.
Right from the first frame, the camera was fixed on her face as she delivered a subtle and quiet but powerful performance with every bit of emotion her character felt and tried to hide spilled onto her features.
There were some story beats about how the job offer went that I thought was typical and wished it would be different, but what writer and director John Patton Ford did was create a scene that gave a great performance from Gina Gershon acting opposite Plaza, and that made it worth the while.
As a new storyteller, I thought Ford brought a lot of interesting and commendable aspects into his direction and I'm looking forward to more from him.
