This was Kevin Smith's version of Avengers: Endgame (or perhaps the comparison to the "Before Trilogy" would be more apt for it's caliber but I think Endgame had an influence in Smith here). He wanted to close out the trilogy by getting every character back and doing a version of "fan service".

While most all of them were done tastefully, but I thought some of those scenes with flashbacks and cameos went on for a bit too long. When you see where the scene was going, it was fun for a minute, but then it hit minute 2 and then minute 3, and that's when I got pulled out of the story.

And I really think that Smith didn't need all of that, because at the centre of it all - like both the other two movies - there was a timely and relatable subject that the characters were dealing with that would have carried the movie just as well already.

Still, in Smith's writing was too quick a jump again from an incident instigated by Jeff Anderson's character to the big outburst of Brian O'Halloran's (who has always delivered his scenes with the right amount of subtlety and exaggerations). Emotionally I wasn't always able to follow the characters in making that jump.

But, again, because the subject was so relatable, the scene would smooth right over itself. And at the end, it was just a great send-off to all these characters that we have come to love.
