David Cronenberg is usually a hit or miss for me. And I think every time he does something for himself, it's a miss. Such was Crimes Of The Future.
There's a specific tone to the movie, coupled with the subject matter made the overall movie quite a drag to sit through.
There's nothing onscreen that was pulling me towards the movie. The high concept of this future world the characters were living in was so far off in the mind of Cronenberg that it was completely unrelatable and challenging to try.
But credit to Cronenberg, just simply having someone writhe while sitting on a skeletal-looking chair trying to eat dinner, or just having Viggo Mortensen completely wrap in black walking the streets, can evoke something inside of you that was never there before.
