I do feel a bit of regret for not having watched the first movie first than jumping straight into the sequel. One reason was because I didn't know there this was a sequel.
Scott Adkins has a fun character in his hands that he's created here. The whole notion of hiring someone to sneak up on you in your own home just to keep your edge was hilarious. And Sarah Chang being the instigator of that was another fun character by Chang to watch.
What was great about a movie like this was that the action sequences were done by the actors playing those characters, so you never had to have the stunt double stepping in for the actor, you never had to cut away from the face or shoot from a different angle creatively. Everything we could see clearly during those sequences, and they were far more enjoyable.
Still, this has nothing on The Raid series, which would still be an all-time best for action movies. But instead of fighting numerous henchmen, there opponents here at least had names to them to make them more significant.
And the best part was the silly charm of Adkins' character. Even with no backstory from my point of view I still went on his side immediately when he came onscreen, because I just knew it was going to be fun times ahead.
