I was not prepared for how fun this movie was going to be. Definitely not an original, satirical take on the movie industry but director and actor Ning Hao delivered a brilliant comedy. I was, luckily, alone in the cinema and laughed with a volume that I haven't delivered in a long time. Multiple times.
Andy Lau has not impressed in a long time. Especially in his last movie where I found it just much of the same. This time, however, was a different Lau; almost a Coen Brothers type of character that showed how much different he could act - given the chance.
Pal Sinn also was brilliant in this movie, playing the foil to Lau's ignorance and egotism; but the ever-loyal. Director Ning played a director who just screamed humour every time he appeared.
Only Kelly Lin appeared to be miscast. Whether it was (still) her acting capability or her discomfort in using Cantonese, she always took me out of the movie; and she didn't even had to say a word to do it.
There's a drop-kick in the middle of the movie. Once again, I will say it's not original, but used after a build-up and to maximum affect; and got me laughing my head off.
I wished the ending was different, something that had a bigger period on it. As is, it was just too quiet and uneventful.
