Although I do not remember much of Alive, but watching Society Of The Snow was as if the two movies were almost completely different.
Just by the way events were presented, J.A. Bayona's version felt more realistic - granted Alive was released 30 years ago with a different way of storytelling for the audience of that decade.
There were less flashy drama here, with more focus on the humanity of the struggle to stay alive. It felt very real and the emotions were very relatable.
It's quite a long movie so there were a lot of build-up on the emotional front. But towards the end, there was also that big relief, expertly crafted by Bayona.
There were some really beautiful cinematography, especially of the mountains and the sky at night. And you could feel that contrast of the natural beauty and the danger it presented - always a contradiction and not being able to enjoy the beauty that was once in a lifetime.
