I don't think it was a conscious choice, and I haven't seen Jodie Foster in a while now, but she looked a whole lot like Michael J. Fox with her mannerisms in this movie.
And while Foster is nominated for Best Supporting, I thought Annette Bening should have gotten a Best Actress too and should have been a frontrunner even.
This was a feel-good movie that came with two powerhouse performances from the two leads. It didn't look at all interesting and that's why I have put it off for so long. And to be honest, if it didn't have the award buzz, I probably would have skipped it.
But once the movie played and the two leads were just talking to each other, the way they performed had me hooked.
I was watching the SAG awards, also on Netflix yesterday, and they played that monologue clip at the end of the movie; and I was moved once again just watching Bening deliver it.
