Here's a movie I have forgotten to watch because I wasn't that interested in it, that and the reviews have not been great.
But as it turned out, I really enjoyed this.
Michael Mann has not been a big name lately in the business, even though Ford v Ferrari was good as well. But this time I thought everything was really good.
And the best part was the dialogue by Troy Kennedy Martin. It was the sentence structure and the choice of vocabulary that I found most captivating.
Adam Driver's very controlled performance was great. But this was Penelope Cruz's movie to shine in. It's easy to understand now how her name was in contention during the awards season but never made it into most of the major awards.
The first two acts were quite solid. Maybe not as great with some of the drama got tied down to the name of his son, and not enough on the cars perhaps.
Also I would have liked to know more of the five drivers that were taking part in the Mille Miglia.
I didn't know about the big climactic scene with that horrendous accident so that came as quite a bit of a shock, but after seeing it I vaguely recall having heard about it years ago.
