At every turn in the movie, his selfish and childish whines has turned me off every single time. There has to be a better way to witness him making his mistakes to his need to fix everything. It's not a good storytelling if I am rooting for him to fail in the end.
The script also got so inconsistent at times because he kept wanting to jump forward quickly but then got sidetracked by one particular moment. He never gave a good enough reason and his friend, played by Skyler Gisondo, became too good a friend that Butterfield did not deserve. Gisondo's character was far more likeable, and I don't even like Gisondo as an actor but here, he's the hero.
