I did not expect this kids-friendly movie to hit this hard on us original fans of the franchise. I was kind of moved by the end.
And sure, the first half of the movie felt very different. It could have been any other story but just with a Transformers skin over it.
The friendship between Optimus and Megatron when they were young totally changed the history of the franchise but also very well told here. So much so that when Megatron made a heel turn, I felt the drama of it all down to my core. And it only took less than an hour of storytelling for us to get there.
Of course, we knew none of the heroes were going to die. But for a moment there, I felt it when a major character fell. But then the next thing happened, and man, that was something.
A great storytelling effort that, unfortunately, the world apparently don't really care for judging by the box office returns.
