I wonder, if I had just seen the original animated movie, and then I went into this one to witness an almost shot for shot remake but in live action; would I still have enjoyed it as much having paid for a ticket?
But luckily I haven't played the Bluray in a few years; and maybe, no matter what, a good story / movie will be just as entertaining.
Mason Thames was a great Hiccup opposite the still-perfectly cast Gerard Butler. Thames wasn't trying to copy Jay Baruchel and made the role his own.
I also thought Nico Parker was great as well. At first, watching her interviews I was unconvinced she would look the part of a dragon-slaying warrior. But good acting is good acting, and I never doubted her for a second.
Nick Frost and Julian Dennison were great additions as well, adding levity and heart that were prominent throughout the first movie.
Even though I knew how the it was going to end, that final battle still got me glued to the screen. The CGI looked brilliant and made the sequence exciting.
But that also became the subject of worry for the sequel, which I do hope they attempt. The second and third movies will have more interaction with dragons and I hope they will still be able to keep the magic.
