[Review] Left-Handed Girl {左撇子女孩} (7/10)

Co-written by Anora's Sean Baker with his long-time producing partner Tsou Shih Ching, who this time was in the director's chair. Instead of one Anora, this time we are looking at three different generation of female characters and how very flawed they all were - each one with their own sets of issues.

Young Nina Ye was definitely the star, and her acting had depth in the struggles and fears of her character.

I didn't quite like the flow, the direction, and the way shots were framed in the big dinner in the third act, which was supposed to be a pivotal event. It only reminded me once again of how brilliant Lulu Wang's direction was for The Farewell's banquet dinner.

But this movie had great acting all around from the three main leads. Ma Shih Yuan and Janel Tsai made their characters relatable with their issues that differed in their generations.

You can see the similarities in style in the way a scene was shot here, and how Baker does his. Only time will tell if Tsou can stand out on her own.
